Carbon Footprint & ISO 14064
Greenhouse Gas Accounting & ISO 14064-1 Implementation
This practical training course provides participants with comprehensive knowledge and skills for quantifying, managing, and reporting organisational greenhouse gas emissions. Aligned with ISO 14064-1:2018 and the GHG Protocol, learn to develop accurate carbon footprints and GHG inventories.
Course Highlights
GHG Accounting Expertise
Master greenhouse gas accounting principles and methodologies aligned with ISO 14064-1 requirements for organisational carbon footprint quantification and reporting.
Practical Carbon Footprinting
Learn to identify emission sources, collect activity data, apply emission factors, and calculate Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions using real-world case studies.
ISO 14064-1 Implementation
Develop the skills to establish GHG inventories, set organisational boundaries, select calculation methodologies, and prepare for verification processes.
Certificate of Completion
Delegates successfully completing the course will receive a Certificate of Completion, recognising competence in carbon footprint assessment and ISO 14064-1.
Learning Outcomes
Who Should Attend
Prerequisites
Course Content
Introduction to GHG Accounting & ISO 14064-1
Overview of climate change and GHG emissions, introduction to the GHG Protocol and ISO 14064-1:2018 standard, understanding the importance of carbon footprinting, and regulatory drivers for GHG reporting.
Organisational & Operational Boundaries
Defining organisational boundaries using equity share, financial control, or operational control approaches. Establishing operational boundaries, identifying emission sources, and categorising activities into Scopes 1, 2, and 3.
Carbon Footprint Calculation Methodologies
Understanding calculation methodologies including direct measurement, mass balance, and activity-based approaches. Selecting appropriate emission factors, handling data gaps, and ensuring calculation accuracy and consistency.
Scope 1, 2 & 3 Emissions Quantification
Detailed guidance on quantifying Scope 1 direct emissions (stationary combustion, mobile combustion, fugitive emissions), Scope 2 location-based and market-based electricity emissions, and Scope 3 value chain emissions across 15 categories.
GHG Inventory Development & Reporting
Building a GHG inventory management plan, implementing data collection systems, performing uncertainty analysis, preparing GHG reports and disclosures, and understanding verification and assurance requirements.
Assessment & Certification
Practical Assessments
Participants are assessed through practical exercises including carbon footprint calculations, GHG inventory development, and case study analysis. These activities are designed to evaluate understanding and application of ISO 14064-1 requirements and GHG accounting methodologies.
Certificate of Completion
Delegates successfully completing the course, including all practical assessments, will be awarded a Certificate of Completion. This certificate demonstrates competence in carbon footprint assessment and GHG inventory development in accordance with ISO 14064-1:2018.
